Renovating your home is really exciting but also can be quite a stressful experience. There are so many moving parts along with the ensuring you stay sane while your house is turned up-side down!

We’ve shared our top 3 tips on how best to prepare for a renovation, so that you stay sane!

Plan, plan, plan!

Without a doubt, when it comes to renovating, you really need to plan. Consider things like weather, when are you planning on renovating and what exactly is being renovated? If you’re looking at exterior renovations, having that booked during the wet months might not be the best idea! Also consider the disruptions that will happen with your family life and try and plan to do the renovations during a time that isn’t booked up with huge life commitments.

Figure out how you’re going to live

Renovations that are confined to one room likely won’t cause you too much trouble, and you should be able to live in your home comfortably for the duration. However, for longer term and larger projects, you might have to get creative! Dependent upon personal choice and budget, you may like to relocate and stay in an Air BNB or with friends during the renovation. Alternatively, some people hire a caravan so they can still live on site and have access to the home or move from room to room within the home as the renovations progress.  It’s good to keep at least one safe space that does not have tools, paint and dust that you can retreat to and decompress.

Prep and protect your home

It’s important to prep your home before the works begin, to minimise your exposure to dust and other allergens. While we do our best to leave your home as free from dust as possible at the end of each day, inevitably things will get a bit dusty! We recommend removing curtains and anything else that acts like a dust-trap. Always cover your furniture if they aren’t being removed from the room. Move any fragile or expensive items off site or somewhere safe and declutter the home. Use a lockable garage or rent a storage unit while the renovations are happening.

We always like to keep your space as clean as possible after each work day, and will do our utmost to ensure you feel as comfortable as possible during the renovation.
